How can i describe this place? It´s an in-between place. It´s like a grand hallway that leads you nowhere,it´s like a banquet dinner of left-overs, a sports team made up of the people never picked, a mother without her child it´s a body without its heart... v angličtine, brožovaná, 390 strán

The Whip

Spisovatel: Cookson Catherine, Heinemann 1983
Katalogové číslo: G9386

Cookson Catherine - The Whip THE WHIP is set in Tyneside, a region in northern England where the rugged country and rough weather once made life little more than a battle for survival. But Emma Molinero, orphan daughter of an itinerant carnival performer, is beyond that kind of struggle. She is a woman whose fiery independence and skill at performing with the whips, her father's only legacy, make her a figure of mysterious but commanding fascination to the villagers among whom she lives. "THE WHIP is Miss Cookson's finest novel to date...a richly detailed, totally absorbing story that will surely add many new readers to the millions who are already devoted Catherine Cookson fans."... v angličtine, tvrdá väzba, bez obalu, 390 strán, v závere knihy uvoľnená väzba /zľava/

Charlie Big Potatoes

Spisovatel: Robinson Phil, Pan Books 2002
Katalogové číslo: E7509

Robinson Phil - Charlie Big Potatoes Charlie Big Potatoes is at once entertaining and illuminating, hilariously dark, and undeniably hopeful. Charlie Marshall is not a man who should be getting married. When Charlie, a twenty-five-year-old magazine writer, returns home to London after his New York bachelor party, his arm is broken -- the result of being thrown out of a bar after lighting his boss's hair on fire -- and he is nursing the effects of a near fatal overdose. He arrives wasted at his own wedding, where the sight of his fiancée, Sarah, in a big white dress, mixed with the expectations of two large families, prove to be the final toxic cocktail for a man who has been wide awake for five days. He crumbles to the floor at the altar. In the aftermath of his abject failure, Charlie is buried by the harsh realities of his parents' deteriorating marriage, his feckless, hedonistic friends, and his massive desire to drink. When Sarah goes on what was to be their honeymoon with one of his best friends, Charlie's downward spiral is complete, and there is only one thing he can do. He checks himself into rehab and begins an affair with a suicidal self-mutilator. But instead of love, Charlie finds only memories of Sarah. He becomes desperate to earn back his life with her. No longer numbed by various substances and battling the absurdity of his hospital group sessions, Charlie decides he's got to make some changes on his own, and his biggest hope is that Sarah will take notice.... v angličtine, brožovaná, 455 strán

The Elephant - Lore of The Hindus

Spisovatel: Edgerton F., Motilal Banarsidass 1985
Katalogové číslo: F4564

Edgerton F. - The Elephant - Lore of The Hindus This book is intended to serve as an introduction to the elephant-lore of Hindus. It consists primarily of a translation of the "Elephant-Sport" (Matanga-Lila) of Nilakantha, with notes, introduction, and glossary. The Matanga-Lila is without doubt the best available Sanskrit work on elephantology. It is a brief and succinct treatise in 263 stanzas, divided into twelve chapters of uneven length. Nothing is known of the Nilakantha who is mentioned as its author. According to the editor, Ganapati Sastri, the three manuscripts he used are about two hundred years old. But the work is probably very much older. For aught we know it may go back a thousand years or even to a much earlier date. This, however, is purely conjectural; all we can say is that there is no positive trace of modernity in the work. The elephant-lore of our text is based on a genuine traditional knowledge which grew up among those whose business it was to deal with elephants, and that this tradition has persisted to modern times.... v angličine, tvrdá väzba, 129 strán,menší formát
